The TALLK: The Trainer

It’s not everyday that I go into an Old Navy and make new friends, but this particular day, my coworker and I decided go do some quick shopping on our lunch break. While looking around, I happened to bump into Ray, and of course, with us two being the tallest in the store, we automatically noticed one another. Moments later my mind went into website model scout mode and I thought, "I wonder if he would be open to contribute to the rahmosley.com site!?"So of course I blurted out the same thing that irritates all talls, "How tall are you?", I didn’t wanna come off as the Old Navy creep so I figured that was the best ice breaker. We talked for a bit and I asked him would be be interested in modeling for my site and he agreed. I automatically go into big brother mode when I meet genuinely good hearted people, so on the day that we shot for the interview and upcoming blog post, I could tell Ray was a bit nervous as this was his first time being in front of a professional camera and being interviewed. My photographer and I coached him through the shoot and before we knew it, Ray became a natural and during the interview I shared with Ray to just respond naturally and organically and the interview turned into a conversation. Ray is a man of few, but true words- and you will definitely be seeing more of him in the future. Without further adieu – rahmosley.com presents the August edition of "The TALLK"!!!!

Name: Ray Gober

Age: 30

Height: 6’5"

Marital Status: Single

Occupation: Plant Manager / Personal trainer

Give us a brief introduction of who you are?

I’m a hard working everyday Black man, just trying to help and show this younger generation some positivity by example.

That’s great! Name three things you are proud to have accomplished that you feel makes you lead by example.

1. Being a father…. I feel like my kids live worry free and treat me like Superman!! I love it!

2. Being a proud black man with so much going on with racism today it’s not easy but that’s what make us strong

3. My fitness transformation because I used to be really skinny, before I got into gym heavy, I really changed my overall appearance and confidence.

When did you realize that your height made you stand out?

When I starting going to the gym and growing into my body, I began to get more attention for my height.

What are some of your biggest challenges when it comes to shopping?

Man… just finding something that fits! Being that I’m tall and pretty fit, I have a hard time finding the length to fit my height instead of the normal width in larger sizes.

How would you describe your style?

Probably more of a clean-cut style. I’m not really a flashy person.

What are some of your favorite brands of clothing to wear?

Whatever fits! To tell you the truth, I’m not really a "brand" type of guy. I always felt that "the man made the clothes, the clothes never made the man!"

What’s some advice you would give someone your size on shopping?

Confidence is everything! Be confident in yourself. If you like it, don’t worry if nobody else does. Like I said before, "the clothes don’t make the man, the man makes the clothes". It’s as simple as that.

What are your top 5 fashion must-haves as a tall guy?

1. Some good "fitted" jeans (not tight!)

2. Nice fitted tee not to baggy

3. A nice pair of casual sneakers Nike!

4. A nice belt that nobody has to see!

5. Confidence this is most important!

Being a father of two, how would you say it’s changed you?

First and foremost, my children make me look at life so much more differently, knowing that they are depending on me to be their real life "super hero" but I love it! I think they bring the best out of me.

What’s one of your most embarrassing moments?

I was in the 12th grade and I used to be able to "jump out the gym" and in a game, I had a wide open dunk. All eyes were on me! My family and friends were all there. I got a steal and it was just me and the rim; as I went up, I got so nervous that I, not only didn’t dunk it, I missed the lay up! Man, my dad and brothers never let me hear the end of it! <laughs>

Speed Round:

All time favorite gym shoe? Nike Flyknits

Tupac or Biggie? Tupac

Drake or Meek Mill? Drake

WCW? The mother of my kids. She’s a real life Super Woman!

Eat Clean or The Struggle is Real? The struggle is real. <laughs>

Pull ups or Push ups? Push ups, all day

Lenox or Phipps? Neither! I’m cheap <laughs>

Nike or Adidas? Nike

T-Boz, Left Eye, or Chili? Left Eye

Summer clothes or Winter clothes? Winter, hands down. You get to show more style.

Since this was your first experience shooting with and being interviewed by Rah Mosley, what are your thoughts? What do you think of the website as a whole?

I like the website’s concept of showing the masses the inside life of us "tall people" and how you give it a personal feel to make it engaging and informative. It can be nerve racking at times but I love it. I love that the main focus is big and tall guys because I feel like we get left out at times. You’re keeping us relevant and up-to-date with the latest fashion and everything else that’s big and tall lifestyle-related.
