The TALLK: The Health Care Provider

Having friends that turn into family is truly a blessing. When I met Brian about 10yrs ago through a mutual friend, we instantly became good friends. We had a lot in common outside of both being TALL, our style of dress, similar taste in music, television shows, and movies. A Michigan native also, now living on the West Coast, San Francisco, CA to be exact , we haven’t saw each other in a few years, but when we do find time to catch up, we usually pick up like no time has been lost. We all have had our share of memorable times with our friends, times that we continue to cherish in small doses of remembrances until we meet up again to make some more. Without further ado heres the December Edition of "The TALLK", featuring Brian Christopher Barden!

Who’s Brian Christopher Barden?

I am person that is truly loyal when it comes to building relationships with people. I focus on the details of those that are around me to see how we can better ourselves. I am person that loves to cook and entertain and be that ear when needed. I am a huge dog lover as well with 2 English Mastiffs over 200lbs. My circle of friends that I have is small but one powerful and supportive group. I am also goal driven on both by professional life and personal life. Things that I want in life I work very hard to get it.

When was the first time you realized you were tall? How did your height make you different?

I realized I was tall when I was in 7th Grade. Coming from a music background from my early childhood until my senior year, I realized I was tall by looking at class pictures in my middle school years. That is was made me different and stand out. I was insecure about it but I remember when my mother told me, “Chris, God created you to stand out and shine! Embrace it, love it and learn it!”

What’s the most annoying question you get asked as a tall person?

Do they make clothes and shoes special for you?

How did your height impact your life differently than others?

It goes back to my mother telling me how special I am and what value I will bring in the future to others. I still take that feedback and use it every day.

What are some of your biggest challenges when it comes to shopping?

Sometimes I may not find shoes in my size or some designers to this day does not cater towards the tall human beings such as myself. Either the pants are too short or the sleeves are too short. But I was very creative when I do buy such clothes that are limited in the Big/Tall.

How would you describe your style?

I honestly dress myself based upon the City I reside in. I live in San Francisco so I am into dressing into layers but with a pop of color or really nice accessory in between. When I travel to Atlanta or Los Angeles, I focus on trendy pieces that are central to what I am wearing. New York, I must be able to bring all areas of the country from east to west and be creative. New York teaches me to think outside the box and just LOVE it! This is what made me what I am today.

What are some brands that you always wear?

I will always have the following in my closet:

Hugo BossJon VarvatosLevisKenneth Cole FootwearChrstian LoubitonExpress- Button Down Shirts

What are your top 5 fashion must-haves as a tall guy?

Hugo Boss Coat- Wool Tailored (Black or Brown)2 Tailored Suites (Job Interview and Wedding/Funeral)Solid pair of Brown and Black Dress Lace Up’sA crisp white button down shirtAlways have an arrangement of colorful dress/casual socks

Do you have any style icons, men who’s style you admire?

I don’t have a particular person that I consider an icon. However GQ and Vogue Magazine has been my go to play with patterns, color, cuts of a jean, how to wear certain scarfs during the spring, etc. How to layer yourself in drastic climates. I do look at Vogue because again, the color pallets are no different.

You’re a newlywed how does it feel to be married now?

It feels good. I never knew how good it felt being in a marriage. Coming from a 10 year relationship previously that ended badly. I learned from my past and to ensure that my next relationship will be a success and I will tell you it has been truly a blessing. My husband Darron Padilla has been there with me and supported me as I have been supportive of him. So 10 years of practice with my past definitely got me a perfect man! Can I get a Amen!

How did you guys first meet?

We meet through a mutual friend at happy hour here in Oakland, California and from there it was a wrap. I wasn’t into a man 10 years older than me but his personality didn’t match his age. His personality was young, vibrant and truly educated and love life just like I did.

Are kids in the future?

Yes there are kids! My goal is to have 2. A boy and a Girl. (Ethan and Jessica) Those will be the names.

What type of work do you currently do?

I was in the hotel industry for 16 years as a Hotel Director. I have opened many hotels throughout the country. I have decided recently to change the direction and go in the Health Care industry as a Director of Operations for a high end luxury assisted living community here in the San Francisco Bay area. I tell you this has been by far the best decision that I have made for a few things:

– Quality of Life

– Getting to know the generation from the early to mid1900’s and listen to their past and what they were growing up and being exposed to. So much history I can sit and talk to my residents all day!

Do you think a relationship can survive after trust has been broken?

Yes I do. Communication is Key and sometimes if you don’t communicate your feelings early, you will never succeed.

Do you think 45 will make it through his full term?

Yes he will unfortunately. But….This will be his only term.

What advice would you give your younger self?

To understand that everything in life will be ok. Never ever overthink or worry too much on things because there is someone out there worse off than you! Be humble and love and live life.

Are open relationships realistic?

Yes they are. It’s up to the couple that build those boundaries. I also feel that nobody should judge on those that are open. That’s on them not you. If it doesn’t affect your day to day activities just be happy and support.
